“This type of compressor is well suited to the harsh power conditions and high ambient temperatures that we experience in most African countries. They are robust and easy to maintain, and when correctly installed, they require minimum maintenance, which suites the African geographical areas where qualified refrigeration technicians are at a premium”
BITZER compressors once again showed why their German Quality & Reliability can be trusted to perform under harsh African conditions when the SAN Group used BITZER ECOLINE compressors extensively in a Shoprite Project in Lagos Nigeria.
Here is a short interview with Juan-Pierre van Zyl, Refrigeration Division Head of the SAN GROUP.
Client: The SAN GROUP
End User: Shoprite Checkers
Store Located: Lagos, Nigeria
Medium Temp: 10x simplex systems evaporating at -10°C (cabinets)
Medium Temp: 10x simplex systems evaporating at -8°C (cold storage)
Low Temp: 7x simplex systems Evaporating at -38°C (cabinets)
Low Temp: 7x simplex systems Evaporating at -30°C (cold storage)
Total Compressors: 34x BITZER Ecoline
What kind of BITZER compressors did you use and how many?
We used approximately 34 to 40 BITZER Ecoline compressors per site, in various sizes from 2KES-05Y to 4HE-18Y
Why did you choose this model of compressor?
This type of compressor is well suited to the harsh powerconditions and high ambient temperatures that we experience in most African countries. They are robust and easy to maintain, and when correctly installed, they require minimum maintenance, which suites the African geographical areas where qualified refrigeration technicians are at a premium.
When did you first start using BITZER Semi-Hermetic Compressors?
We have been using Bitzer Semi-Hermetic since 2007
Please explain the objectives of the project.
We needed to supply energy efficient, good quality equipment for refrigeration to retail supermarkets
When did the project start?
We have undertaken numerous projects using the Bitzer Ecoline compressor range, this latest projected concluded in August 2015
Where is the facility/are the facilities located?
The latest concluded project was at Festival Mall in Lagos, Nigeria
What makes your solution special and what challenges did you need to overcome?
We have managed over the years to identify problem areas in refrigeration systems that need to operate optimally in challenging conditions. In many African countries we are faced with extreme power fluctuation, very high ambient temperatures and the lack of basic spare parts. We have made significant changes to improve reliability and efficiency of the entire refrigeration system and are able to supply a well-balanced solution, based on a selection of the best equipment available in the industry.
