Download an informative presentation on HCFC phase out, including refrigerant retrofit information, have a look at alternatives to R22 and insight into refrigerant recovery services.
In June, Jaco Coetzee, business manager at Afrox’s Special Products and Chemicals division, and colleague, Nadine Baird, chemicals product manager, addressed guests at the South African Institute of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (SAIRAC) Johannesburg technical meeting on the topical issue of the R22 phase-out, very much looking at ‘what now?’
Baird spoke on the environmental impact of refrigerants and ran through the HCFC phase out schedule. She mentioned how the market is moving towards natural refrigerants as the cost of R22 continues to sky-rocket with the dwindling supply.
Coetzee followed, talking about suitable alternatives and which applications they are best suited to. “Unfortunately there is no such thing as a 100% universal replacement, there is no silver bullet,” he said. He also spoke on retrofit options and things to look out for when doing so.
